Relix Reviews Folk Singer
RELIX OCTOBER 2009. On Folk Singer, magician and troubadour Nathan Moore is up to his old tricks, working his magic into this latest batch of folk songs about life, both his and yours, versus dreams, both broken and deferred. An EP on the heels of a recent full-length, Moore proves as proficient as Ryan Adams, as lyrical as Jeff Tweedy and as charming as a deadbeat carton character that wakes up, rubs his belly and leans into the day. The disc starts off ominously with the lyircal triple-hitter heaviness of “Tombsotne,” “Hard Times” and “Bending Spoons,” and then turns the mood around with the itnerant “Travelin’ On,” a tune that’s as much about the magic of music as it its about hte illusion of the magician.” – Benjy Eisen
