Storytelling Folk Singer Announces March Concerts

The art of storytelling is alive and well in singer/songwriter Nathan Moore’s repertoire, and in March the nationally-touring folk singer will be performing his award-winning live show in his home state of Virginia.  His schedule includes:

March 20   Tidewater Friends of Folk Music Concert Series, Meyera E. Oberndorf  Central Library,
4100 Virginia Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 7:30pm. Tickets: www.tffm.org

March 26   “Nationwide & Countryfried” (Nathan Moore & Bryan Elijah Smith) Shenandoah Fringe Festival, Baja Bean Co., 9 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA  9pm.

Called “…a musician in a constant state of becoming” (State of Mind), Moore has been praised for bringing balladry into the 21st century.  His ground-breaking writing and performing cause music writers to easily invoke the names Dylan, Van Zandt, Guthrie, Cohen and Cash when reviewing Moore’s work as well as lining him up with contemporary greats like Jeff Tweedy, Yim Yames, Conor Oberst, and M. Ward.

Nathan has logged a lot of road and frequent flyer miles since releasing his latest EP Folk  Singer in August 2009, toting his bag of tricks from coast-to-coast and giving thousands a peek inside.  He thinks the new album and show are feeding a deep need for people to connect during hard times.  Moore recently told an interviewer from TheWaster.com:   “Since the economy has turned and with the state of the world, people are looking closer to home for things to sustain us.  In that sense, the folk singer thrives…I seem to catch people off guard when I am performing, in how they are reacting to me.  I think people are poised.  Our culture is so accustomed to not having direct connection…people are just jaded enough to be pleasantly surprised by a little folk singer.  They come up to me after the show and say “I wasn’t expecting to feel any of that stuff, thank you!”

In a career that has spanned nearly two decades, Moore has recorded nineteen albums and played hundreds of gigs alongside an impressive list of talented artists at hot venues and festivals all over the country.  He’s been in a jam band, a string band, a rock band and now is on the rise as a solo singer/songwriter.  After touring relentlessly in the 1990’s and co-founding a small independent record label in Santa Fe, NM in 2001, Nathan returned to his roots in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in 2006 to launch a solo endeavor.  Moore’s 2007 solo album, In His Own Worlds, spent 21 weeks on the Roots Music Radio Charts, and his evocative one-man show that is an innovative combination of music, banter and magic has wowed audiences and garnered critical praise from coast-to-coast ever since.  Moore won the prestigious Telluride Troubadour Contest in 2008.

In 2010 Nathan will continue touring Folk Singer nationally and record a new album. He will also be appearing on short tours with his rock band Surprise Me Mr. Davis. When not on the road, Nathan conducts a community-based educational and performing arts program in his home town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and writes from his riverfront family home that he shares with his two brothers.  He is also forming a multi-media company focused on helping people tell their stories in new and innovative ways.
